Trauma Therapy & PTSD Treatment
Does It Feel As Though The Past Is Holding You Back?
You feel like you’re constantly on edge, overwhelmed. It seems like you continue to relive memories of the past. Often, you find yourself feeling anxious and angry. You’re having trouble sleeping and feel exhausted and depressed most of the time.
Perhaps you are easily annoyed at others and your relationships and work are suffering. You are constantly on high alert, always vigilant and on the lookout for danger, worried that what happened to you in the past will happen again.
THESE CAN be signs of trauma
Experiencing trauma may change how you see the world, others, and and your beliefs. However, what happened in the past does not have to continue to have power in your life. Some people are tempted to think, “what I went through isn’t that bad. I wouldn’t really define it as trauma, I should be able to handle it.” There is a misconception that PTSD only affects those who have been in war or see traumas on a daily basis. This isn’t true. Trauma can be caused by a variety of sources and situations and we all respond differently to it.
Signs of Trauma and Symptoms of PTSD
There are many symptoms of PTSD, and they look different for everyone, but they can fall into four major categories, including:
Intrusive memories
Unwanted upsetting memories of the traumatic event that keep coming back over and over again
Reliving the traumatic event as if it were happening again (flashbacks)
Severe emotional pain or physical reactions to something that reminds you of the traumatic event
Avoidance
Taking great measures to avoid thinking or talking about the traumatic event
Avoiding places, activities, or people that remind you of the traumatic event
Negative changes in thinking and mood
Negative thoughts about yourself, other people or the world
Lack of interest in activities you once enjoyed
Difficulty experiencing positive emotions
Changes in physical and emotional reactions
Always being on guard for danger
Irritability, angry outbursts or aggressive behavior
Overwhelming guilt or shame

This will help you move in a positive direction. You have the ability to overcome problems and write a more fulfilling stories for your future.

Trauma & PTSD is more common than you might think. Among adults:
About 7 or 8 out of every 100 people will have PTSD at some point in their lives.
Approximately 8 million adults have PTSD during a given year. This is only a small portion of those who have gone through a trauma.
It is estimated that 10 of every 100 women develop PTSD sometime in their lives, compared with about 4 of every 100 men.
